    More from best actor winner Matthew McConaughey backstage at the Oscars - he says the win for Dallas Buyers Club is "the end of a journey with this film.

    And the best actor goes to Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club. It caps a massive turnaround in his career from rom-coms to serious drama. He praised his fellow nominees for their "impeccable performances".
    He thanked God, his family, his late father "who is up there with a big pot of gumbo and is dancing right now".

    Gravity composer Steven Price told the BBC his love of music came from dancing around to Beatles records on the family record player at home.
    He hopes his Oscar win will open the doors to working with other people who tell great stories like Gravity.

    And the winner of best actress goes to... Cate Blanchett, for her role in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine.
    Accepting her award, Cate Blanchett praised her fellow actresses including the "sublime" Sally Hawkins and said films with strong female characters were not "niche".
    "Audiences want to see them and in fact they earn money," she said.

    And original screenplay goes to... Spike Jonze for Her. It is his first Oscar win and he looks stunned. "I have 42 seconds to speak so I better hurry," he says.
    Thanking friends and family, he adds: "We made a movie about relationships and intimacy, and that's what we have."
  14. BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY 12 YEARS A SLAVE04:27: 
    Lots of typewriters form the background of the Oscar set as the nominations for the screenplay awards are announced. We wonder if any of them work? Adapted screenplay goes to... John Ridley for 12 Years A Slave, making it two for Steve McQueen's slavery drama.
  15. BEST SONG LET IT GO04:24: 
    Let It Go, from the Disney animation Frozen wins the Oscar for best original song for husband and wife team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
    Mr Lopez becomes an Egot, which is a very rare distinction, meaning the winner of an Academy, Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award.
    Other winners of all four awards include Whoopi Goldberg, Mel Brooks and the late Marvin Hamlisch.
  16. GRAVITY WINS BEST ORIGINAL SCORE04:17: 
    Music score is awarded to Steven Price for Gravity - that is six out of its ten nominations for a movie that, remember everyone, is a British film.
    The humble Mr Price thanked his family. "Mum, dad, Jenny, sorry I made such noise when I was growing up".

    That's two Oscars now for Catherine Martin for production design for The Great Gatsby.
    She has two other Oscars for Moulin Rouge in 2002, also directed by her husband Baz Luhrmann.

    Cinematography goes to...Gravity - that makes their haul four Oscars so far. It's a bittersweet moment though as presenter Bill Murray adds his Ghostbusters co-star, the late Harold Ramis, who died in February, to the list of the nominees.

    It's a second and third Oscar win for Gravity for sound mixing and sound editing, to add to its visual effects award. Set to sweep the technical board?

    Ellen has changed to an all-white outfit to introduce "a man who needs no introduction" Brad Pitt who introduced "one of the biggest rock bands in the world" U2 to perform their song Ordinary Love from the film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

    Earlier, best supporting actress nominee Amy Adams graced the red carpet in a strapless navy Gucci Couture dress while American Hustle co-star Jennifer Lawrence wore a bright red Dior gown.

    Live action short, presented by Kate Hudson and Jason Sudeikis, goes to Helium. Bad luck to Brits Mark Gill and Baldwin Li who were nominated for their film, The Voorman Problem.
    The best short documentary goes to The Lady in Number 6 about Alice Herz-Sommer, the oldest known survivor of the Nazi Holocaust who died in London a week ago at the age of 110.

    Samuel L Jackson and Naomi Watts presented Catherine Martin for The Great Gatsby with the Oscar for costume design. She had her speech tucked into her bra and thanked the ladies who are currently working on the musical version of her husband Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom.

    Tonight's first performer Pharrell Williams went back to top of the UK singles chart for the third time earlier with his song Happy.
    The song, which is nominated for an Oscar, features in the hit animated film Despicable Me 2.

    And the first award of the night, best supporting actor, is presented by last year's best supporting actress winner Anne Hathaway and it has gone to Jared Leto for Dallas Buyers Club. It's his first ever Oscars nomination.
    "To my fellow nominees, I'm proud to share with journey with you." He also thanked his mother - "I love you mum thank for teaching me how to dream" and he even plugged his band Thirty Seconds to Mars by thanking his brother Shannon, the band's drummer.
